Reorder Shipping Methods
Control the order in which shipping methods appear at checkout. Sort by name, price, delivery type, or set a fully custom ranking.
How to Create a Reorder Shipping Methods Rule
- From the dashboard, click Create rule.
- Select Reorder shipping methods.
- Fill in the rule settings (explained below).
- Click Save.
Rule Settings
Rule Name
Enter a descriptive name for internal reference. Customers never see this.
Rule Status
Choose Test, Active, or Inactive. See Understanding Rule Status.
Reorder Settings
Shipping has five reorder modes:
Alphabetical Order
Sorts all shipping methods by name:

Shipping Price
Sorts by the shipping rate price:

| High to low (Descending) | $24.99, $12.99, $5.99, Free |
Shipping Price + Alphabetical Order
Sorts by price first, then alphabetically within the same price. Four options:

| Price Low to High and Name Z-A | Cheapest first, then Z-A within same price |
| Price High to Low and Name A-Z | Most expensive first, then A-Z within same price |
| Price High to Low and Name Z-A | Most expensive first, then Z-A within same price |
Fixed Ranking
Set a custom order for specific shipping methods. You build a ranking table with:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Rank | The position number (1 = first, 2 = second, etc.) |
| Condition | How to match: Equals to (exact) or Contains string (partial) |
| Shipping method | The name of the shipping method |
Click Add shipping method to add rows. Methods not in your ranking appear after the ranked ones.
Case Sensitive checkbox is available for fixed ranking.
Delivery Type
Order methods by their Shopify delivery type category. You build a ranking table selecting from delivery types:
- Shipping
- Pick up
- Pickup point
- Local
- Retail
- None
The available delivery types are:
- Shipping
- Local delivery
- Pickup
- Pickup point
- Retail
- None
This lets you group all standard shipping first, then local delivery, then pickup — regardless of individual method names.
Validation Trigger (Conditions)
- Always — reorder applies to every checkout.
- On condition — reorder only applies when your conditions are met.
Common Examples
Cheapest shipping first:
- Order by: Shipping price
- Direction: Low to high (Ascending)
Standard shipping always on top:
- Order by: Fixed ranking
- Rank 1: “Standard Shipping” (Equals to)
- Rank 2: “Express Shipping” (Equals to)
Show shipping before pickup options:
- Order by: Delivery type
- Rank 1: Shipping
- Rank 2: Local delivery
- Rank 3: Pickup

- Use exact method names in fixed ranking for reliable matching. See How to Find the Exact Original Method Name.
- Delivery type ordering is useful when you have many methods and want to group by category rather than naming each one.
- Price-based sorting is dynamic — it uses the actual shipping rate calculated for each checkout.
