App Conflicts With My Theme or Other Apps

If you’re experiencing unexpected behavior at checkout or on your storefront after installing Kedra Checkout Rules, here’s how to determine whether the app is the cause and how to resolve conflicts.

What Kedra Checkout Rules Does and Doesn’t Affect

The app ONLY affects checkout:

  • Hiding, renaming, or reordering payment methods
  • Hiding, renaming, or reordering shipping methods
  • Applying shipping discounts
  • Showing validation error messages

The app does NOT affect:

  • Your storefront (home page, collection pages, product pages)
  • Cart page
  • Customer login or account pages
  • Contact forms
  • Site speed or page loading
  • Theme appearance

If you’re seeing issues on pages other than checkout, the cause is your theme, another app, or a Shopify issue — not Kedra Checkout Rules.

How to Isolate the Issue

Step 1: Disable All Kedra Rules

Set all your rules to Inactive in the app and test checkout again. If the issue goes away, one of your rules is causing it. Re-enable them one at a time to find which one.

Step 2: Check Other Checkout Apps

If you have another checkout customization app installed, it may conflict with Kedra. Both apps modifying the same methods at checkout can cause unpredictable behavior.

Common conflicting app types:

  • Other checkout rule apps (hiding/renaming/reordering methods)
  • Shipping discount apps
  • Checkout validation apps
  • Checkout UI extension apps

Fix: Temporarily disable the other app and test. If the conflict resolves, you’ll need to choose one app for that function or contact both app support teams.

Step 3: Test With a Default Theme

If you suspect a theme issue:

  1. Go to Online Store > Themes in your Shopify admin.
  2. Add the free Dawn theme (or any default Shopify theme).
  3. Preview your store with Dawn (you don’t need to publish it).
  4. Go through checkout and test your rules.

If the issue disappears with Dawn, your custom theme is the cause. Contact your theme developer for a fix.

Step 4: Check Recent Changes

Think about what changed recently:

  • Did you install or update another app?
  • Did your theme auto-update?
  • Did you change payment or shipping settings in Shopify?
  • Did you add or modify rules in Kedra?

The most recent change is usually the cause.

Common Scenarios

”Customers can’t log in / add to cart / use contact forms”

This is not caused by Kedra Checkout Rules. The app only runs during checkout and does not load anything on your storefront. Check your theme and other apps.

”Checkout shows errors that aren’t from my rules”

Another app or a Shopify setting change may be adding validation. Disable other checkout apps to test.

”Payment/shipping methods appear differently than expected”

If another app also modifies checkout methods, both apps’ changes may combine in unexpected ways. Only use one app per function.

”Checkout looks different after installing the app”

Kedra Checkout Rules does not change the visual appearance of checkout. If checkout looks different, check your Shopify checkout settings and theme.
